CHIEF MASTER SGT. MARK O. LEGVOLD

Chief Master Sgt. Mark Legvold, is the Command Chief of the 133rd Airlift Wing, St. Paul, Minn. As the Wing Command Chief, he is responsible for advising the Wing Commander on all aspects of the enlisted force regarding health, morale, readiness, and professional development.
 
Chief Legvold began his U.S. Air Force career in October of 1990, as an active duty firefighter. His tours brought him to Altus Air Force Base, Okla., and Elmendorf AFB, Alaska. In 1995, he separated from active duty and enlisted in the 133rd Airlift Wing, where he filled the positions of Driver/Operator, Crew Chief, and Station Captain of the 133rd Civil Engineer Squadron, Fire and Emergency Services department. In 2005, he transitioned into squadron leadership as 133rd Civil Engineer Squadron’s First Sergeant. In March of 2007, he accepted the full-time position as the 133rd Civil Engineer Squadron, Fire Chief and continued to serve concurrently as 133rd Civil Engineer Squadron’s First Sergeant until 2010. Throughout his tour as Fire Chief, he supervised the growth and development of all firefighters, reinvigorated the funding, training and acquisition process, maintained fire safety compliance for all 133rd Airlift Wing facilities, represented the wing and Department of Military Affairs in the State Emergency Operations Center, and worked to develop domestic response preparedness with state headquarters personnel, and 133rd Airlift Wing and 148th Fighter Wing leadership. The 133rd Civil Engineer Squadron, Fire and Emergency Services department was recognized as the Air National Guard’s Small Fire Department of Year in 2012. In September of 2013, he supervised the closing of the fire department, transitioning members to either new ANG fire departments or to new occupations within the wing. In 2015, he transitioned from Fire Chief to a Security Forces specialist by joining the 133rd Security Forces Squadron.
 
A passionate developer of people, Chief Legvold loves to mentor, train and teach. He is currently the Minnesota Air National Guard’s only certified mentor trainer and has provided two day mentorship courses at both the 133rd Airlift Wing and 148th Fighter Wing for more than 200 Non-Commission Officers, Senior Non-Commission Officers and junior officers. He is also a certified 4-lens facilitator and has delivered organizational and leadership growth seminars to numerous groups both on and off base. He also enjoys farming over 760 acres with his father on the family farm in Northfield, Minn. Prior to assuming his Active Guard Reserve position in 2010, Chief Legvold worked in both classroom instruction and administrative capacities for the St. Paul, Minn., Public Schools.
