Creative Engineering

David Bethel, left, an engineer from Robbins Air Force Base, U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Kyle Mayer, center, and U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Scott Mathisen, right, 133rd Maintenance Squadron, test the micro unit on a trimming status panel in St. Paul, Minn., April 7, 2022. Bethel, Mayer, and Mathisen represent maintainers from five different maintenance squadrons who came together to repair aging lighting control units for their C-130 H3 Hercules fleets. This ingenuity not only restored the operational status of 11 of 16 lighting control units, it also saved the U.S. Air Force approximately $1.6M dollars. (U.S. Air National Guard photo by Amy M.
